First of all let me say that I am the king of newbs. I know absolutely NOTHING. So what I want to ask is what do the mods do and how do I use them. I'm not a programmer nor am I very good with computers so I just want a simple straight up answer.
Thanks!
Cosmos is a collection of files that, when correctly applied, allows you to change your interface to a certain set of predefined (but mostly user-configurable) "building blocks".
Basically, it extents the WoW User Interface with new features.

What kind of things can it change with the UI?
Basically, it can affect anything that is accessible in "2D" - buttons, player portrait, bags, skills, abilities, spells and so on.

Is there anywhere I can see what this UI looks like before installing it?
Sure.

That's a screenshot.
I wish I had more, but my screenshot person turned up missing.

I've looked all over the site and am unable to find a description of what in the blazes Cosmos IS, what it DOES, and what it LOOKS LIKE. This really should be one of the main buttons on the home page. I saw the screen shot above but I'm not sure what other options are available.
Information would be helpful!
Sorry.

I have to agree with the others here. There is no useful information about what Cosmos is or what it does. This needs to be on the main site. I've only looked this far because I'm a very curious being, but to most users I'd gander that they'd just move along.
So from a total noob standpoint, this is all that I've been able to garner.
1. It is a UI mod for the World of Warcraft client, presumably using the scripting hook provided by the game developers?
2. It is a 3rd party modification.
3. You can add on to it. (No idea what it can do to begin with, nor what you can add.)
The main page needs this information.
1. General overview/desctiption about what Cosmos is and what it does.
2. A feature list for the default setup.
3. Clear, well presented screenshots.
4. Link to the main, as well as mirror, download locations.
5. Link to documentation, for installation and configuration.
I'm actually quite surprised that I still have very little idea about what Cosmos is. Beside various hints at item collection, charcter profiles, and auot-loot, I can't tell whether its a fancy skin or a complte scripted UI, or what it provides over the default client UI.
Those link that are given to the WiKi thanks you for downloading Cosmos and tells you how to install it, and how to configure it. Not what Cosmos is or is capable of.
I do hope you guys can can get these issues worked out, because right now it takes either seeing it in action, experimentation, or wading through mounds of text just trying to figure out what Cosmos does.

With all the hype it has recieved, and with the knowledge that changing your UI cannot affect your game adversely or irrepairably, then why haven't you guys installed it just to "try it out" yet!
UI is a new department, and thus undocumented and certainly not polished. I would much prefer the cosmos devs work on the program then on the website. For the rest of you, dig your paws in!

Hmm, its a good point though. So, power to the people I say! There's a Wiki site, and I've kicked off a What is Cosmos page.
If you feel its lacking, please fill it in yourselves, or if you've something you'd like someone else to answer, use the talk page or post here or whatever - hopefully someone out here can then fill in the gaps :)

If you want something added to the page that you can't answer yourself, please add questions to http://www.wowwiki.com/Talk:What_is_Cosmos

First off, I want to say how great this is! it's made playing WoW that much easier.
Ok, now for the probs. The first one I'm having is that I cannot unlock the quick bars to add other items to them, like new spells or potions.
The second is the information window that pops up whenever you mouseover something is in the middle-top of my screen. This would be ok, except it is directly over the characters portrait I am trying to trade/duel with. Is there any way to make it appear over the mouse like it used to or at least move it out of the way?
Please help!!!
Thanks :D

Drake -
Welcome to the world of Cosmos!
Q) My Tool Bar will not let me change out my spells/abilities for new ones. Where is the over ride for this?
A) You've probably hit the Lockbar button. LockBar adds a button that resides to the left of your main bar. It is barely touchable in 1024x768 (UI Scale 1). To override the LockBar the latest Cosmos distros use "shift". You can also delete the Interface\AddOns\LockBar directory for a more permanent (and emotionally satisfying) solution if you don't like having buttons locked in place.
Q) How do I put the information pop-up (tooltip) back in the bottom right corner?
A) Check the "Relocate Tooltip" checkbox in Cosmos Options. --Alex
Both from http://www.wowwiki.com/Cosmos_Questions, which is linked in the one and only sticky in this forum :p Sorry, I just had to have a little dig
If you feel the Qs and As are not very clear, please say so (with constructive suggestions!) and I'll update 'em. Or better yet, as its a Wiki, you can update them yourself if you want to give it a go :)
Good luck with Cosmos, its a great tool but does take a while to work out how best to use it for yourself.
