View Full Version : TrackAll, an idea...

Any of you coders out there, tel me if this is possible, because it would be a truly wonderful thing for us hunters.
Now, I have been enjoying making map notes visible on on MiniMap, and it got me to thinking...If we can adjust what is displayed on the minimap, can we adjust how long something is displayed on the minimap?
What I'd like is basically a macro and appropriate UI tie-in that will automatically cast all of a hunters available tracks at short intervals, and keep the results visible on the minimap for a certain duration after the next track is active.
In effect, it'd be like a radar screen, updating each track as it get the new information, yet keeping the previous track still visible, until it is updated.
Possible?
Or no?

I'm pretty sure it's a no, because you need to press a button to cast a spell. You can't just make a script that casts spell 1, then spell 2 then spell 3 etc.

Ah, okay, so there's no way to script a looping cast so to speak, where I could hit a buton, and it cast all tracks with a slight delay?
Well, would it be possible to make the minimap retain tracks for a period of time? Where I would hit each track individually, but the results would retain in the minimap?
Basically, I'm just wanting to be able to scan periodically, doesn't do much good to have 'Track Humanoids' up and get nailed by a stealther when 'Track Hidden' could have avoided that, and vice versa.

It's been mentioned that you're unable to get data from the tracking dots.
It wouldn't even be practical. How often would you stop and cast 8 skills one after the other?
Base problem is, as Karmond states, we can "put" stuff on the minimap, but not "get" stuff from it.

Well, it would be very practical, even if you didn't use all 8 tracks. I'd scan quite often in new areas.
When PvP flagged, just doing a quick 'Track humanoids' and 'Track hidden' would be immensely helpful.
I am confused, though. Both of you mentioned not being able to et data from the minimap dots. I'm not sure how this fits in? I just want the dots to stay from one track to the next, not be able to mouse over and get info?[/quote]

It fits in because the dots are drawn by Blizzard, and there's no known way in the UI to control the drawing of those dots by Blizzard, nor to know *where* they were drawn.
So once the "Blizzard" dot fades, there's no way within the UI to replace the "Blizzard dot" with a "UI dot", because you wouldn't know where to put it.
If you like, take a look at http://www.wowwiki.com/World_of_Warcraft_API#Mapping_Functions and see if you can somehow extract information using these API calls as to where the tracking marks are being drawn. You may also find further functions under http://www.wowwiki.com/Global_Function_List
If you can do this then the rest becomes more feasible (albeit, still with mucho button pressing!). It'll be quite a lot of work to find out exactly how all these functions work, and there's a chance that at the end of it you'll be no closer than when you started. If you don't try, you won't know though ;)

There was an addon I saw floating around that was suppose to color the dots based on what they were. It didn't seem to work when I tried it. Something like that would be immensely useful for herbalists/miners if anyone could get it working again...the above idea tied together with this could be great.

it would be very easy to set up one of the cycler addons to do this, you would just have to press a button everytime to switch. Therefore, you would just press a button a few times to scroll through the various types of tracking.
you could even have different ones, hit a button a few times to see what humanoids/elementals/beasts are on your minimap (even pop up a little "humanoids"), hit a different button to scroll through others, etc so you wouldnt have to scroll through all 8 just to get back to humanoids.
