Here is a idea, say you join a group and eveyone in the group has cosmos. Would it be possible to make a addon where if you say type /talkon you will be able to voice chat with the other people in your group?
I use Ventrillo curently but I think it would be cool if we would be able to chat with others without having to get them to download Ventrillo give them the password and the channel etc.

Is this possible? /hopes

Why wouldn't it be possible. You can play games in WoW with the use of Cosmos you can share quests through quest minion, you can see when someone else is using cosmos in your group with cosmos why wouldn't this be able to work?

Sarf any comments?

You can't send audio through the game. All of those features you mentioned use a hidden chat channel to send text back and fourth.

It isn't possible, no amount of explanation or comments from anyone else will change that result.

What Gryphon says is true.

We lack the ability to send actual voice chat using WoW.

Now, we COULD do something that matched written text with words and then "spoke" them, but this would be horribly slow and would not do what you wanted.

Until Blizzard adds code for voice chat, we can't provide it. :(

Would it be possible to create a match-making service for Ventrilo or Teamspeak using Cosmo?

By this, I mean:

1) You can pre-populate a form in the interface with your favorite Ventrilo or Teamspeak server connections and choose to 'auto-join' one or possibly set a priority for some kind of auto-join hirearchy.

2) When in the game, you're connected using Ventrilo/Teamspeak, etc. and you join a group.

3) Other group members who are using this add-on would be notified with a pop-up window (or something) that indicated another group member is using Cosmo AND pre-connected to a server.

4) At this point, members would see a list of Ventrilo/Teamspeak servers currently in use and could choose to join/add to favorites, etc.

Just a thought.

Would it be possible to have some sort of Teamspeak/Ventrilo matchmaking add-on? Something that would allow you to pre-populate your add-on with the server(s) you frequent--ip address, etc.. Then you can flag it to either announce that you're using a voice-ip tool or not.

When you join a group that has another cosmo member also signed in and publicly using a voice tool, you both get a pop-up window displaying the (if the users are on different ventrilo/teamspeak servers) voice channel options to choose from.

At this point, people could just double click or select and click a join button to switch to a common server and chat with each other.

For those just logging on and looking for a chat server to join, the tool would allow them to browse a list of open and available voice servers currently in use by other cosmo users.

It should also filter by cosmo users on the server you're playing on.

Just some ideas.

P.S.
I didn't know that my original post was actually accepted. When I hit 'submit' I received a PHP 'debug' error.

No, since this would require us to interact with external programs (AFAIK).

Not necessarily. You wouldn't have to actually interact. You could simply let Cosmos users indicate that they have the ability and/or are currently connected to a Voice server.

Then Cosmos could allow one to find other Cosmos users that have the ability. They could interact in game to negeotate the exact protocol/server/channel etc. The problem you would be solving is finding players with the capability. You woundn't really have to go beyond that.

Yes, but how would we deal with channel names, special servers and so on?

Could you have an form that users fill out (as a configuration setup) where they simply populate the relevant fields with information. Then the information stored in the form would be what cosmos broadcasts.

So even though cosmos doesn't make the actually voiceIP server connections, it can present players with enough detailed information in-game to be able to pop out and configure their Ventrilo or Teamspeak client.

I guess it's like a directory service.

most people who use ventrilo already have groups going and are used for guilds only.

better addition for ventrilo would be http://www.teamspeakoverlay.com/ which works with teamspeak that allows you to see who is talking ingame. been looking for a program like that for the longest time.

Have you been able to make this work, with Cosmos installed?

I tried it, a while back .. and it and Cosmos wouldn't play well together.
