secondly, unless blizz was to release the UI version number before they release the patch then cosmos cant update before blizz.

Blizz wont do this because if they change the number then all the UIs will be wrong and more of an uproar will occur then normal.

Simply get a tool like:
http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=216
to change the .tocs for you then get the official cosmos updates later.

That said, yes, it would be nice to get a little more information from Blizzard about the patches before they release them. There was even a thread on the official forums about this that I saw recently, but I can't find it now.

Still, I can live without my addons for the day or so it usually takes them to get updated after a patch. (Well, okay... I'm actually tech-savvy enough that I just go around and update all the .toc files by hand. But when addons get outright broken by a patch, I can wait until they're fixed.)

When I tried those Interface # updates, they forced the botched version # of 4222 instead of what I found later by digging though the Blizz Community Site: 4216. I to went though and manyally changed all the .toc's to the correct version #, but either way,Blizz reccomends not to do it and every time I have I get a couple different error messages in my chat window and a few that pop up as windows. Other than that, the manual update works fine.

We recommend you not manually update as well. A patch to cosmos is usually availble within an hour or two of the servers coming up. The reason it's not until after server up is because blizzard regularly removes/changes/breaks functions of the client and we need to test those changes before we release the client. Blizzard giving us the patch before everyone else will not happen - Sorry, but you're just going to have to go without cosmos for an hour or two, or face those error messages with a manual update, if there's a patch :(
