What is Khaos? I see it quite a bit in the Patch Report, but it isn't an addon (at least, it's not a folder in the addon directory).

Thanks!

Khaos...

Ok, to start with Cosmos first :)

Cosmos, the package you download, is based on a "core".
The core of Cosmos are a few library.

Cosmos = core / config pannel
Earth = the cosmos button on the minimap
Sea = variable / function manipulation
Sky = Channel handling / information exchange betweek user
Libram = ??
maybe 1 or 2 other library?

Well, the Core of cosmos is made of a few addons, and Khaos is mean't to replace the "Cosmos" addons.

Without releasing the punch, it's will offer a much more interesting interace for configuration of everything.

The reason why you see alot of Khaos mention in patch is that we are rolling in addons to support Khaos.

Heh MrKag I was just about to ask the same thing.

So is Khaos going to be the 'Cosmos2' I read about occaisionally. Or am I misunderstanding the way the package works.

Or is it another Library you guys are adding? It's a touch confusing :(

Good to see Cosmos is still going strong tho :) I had almost given up after all those sky issues.

Khaos will be the heart of cosmos2 (as Cosmos is the heart of cosmos1)
ie:
/Cosmos directiory will become /Khaos directory

There will be a few other addons change, like PopNUI and TransNUI being replaced by a new more performing addon.

As far as I'm concerned, the devz team is working hard to improve performance of each addons, and improve feature.

Besside Khaos interface and an improved patcher, I don't see anything earth-shaking.

Improving performance, minimizing memory usage/garbage collection is currently a collective effort going very well, I think cosmos use 1/2 to 1/3 of what he used to generate in the past.

There is always place on the team for help if anyone have spare time I guess.

So will Cosmos 2 be technically called Khaos?

No, it will be called Cosmos 2, the gui options library used will be Khaos and it will also include 'SkyLight' to replace Sky.

Just to try and clear up some of the confusion that seems to be the main cause of problems:

At the moment, the name "Cosmos" is used to refer to two different things: it refers both to the entire package of 40 or so AddOns, and it is also the name of one particular "core" AddOn, the one you can find in the AddOns\Cosmos folder. The Cosmos AddOn (as opposed to the Cosmos package) is what displays the configuration menu for example.

With the next version of Cosmos (the package), the two things will be referred to by separate names. Cosmos will be the name of the entire package, and Khaos will be the name of one particular core AddOn that provides the GUI configuration options. Khaos is a library like Sea, Earth and Sky.

This naming will be used to clarify the difference between the core services (Khaos) that other AddOns depend on, and the entire package (Cosmos).
