Patch 1.8

As you have noticed, Blizzard has released patch 1.8.

Cosmos currently does not work with patch 1.8. If you use it, you will experience error messages and non-functioning AddOns. The team is currently working very hard to fix all the errors. If you would like to try the most up-to-date version as we are working on it, you can download the Alpha version (or set the patcher to Alpha). Please note that this version is not guaranteed to be bug-free, it is cutting edge. Its contents is likely to change hourly as we fix things for 1.8.

Cosmos***** will clean the new Blizzard addon files, this will not harm your game or the Blizzard addons. These files will be recreated when you login to the game, they are cache files and are not actual addons.

Update: The Alpha distribution is now substantially stable and usable with patch 1.8. The AddOns in it still show up as out-of-date as we go through final verification that everything is in order.

Update 2: The Alpha distribution has been updated so that the AddOns no longer show out-of-date. You can safely use it, but please keep reporting any bugs you find.

The add-on is called Popbar. Here's a link for some more info on it although from what I've read today it's not working atm with patch 1.8. Maybe after Cosmos is ready for the patch it will work??? Guess we'll have to wait and see. Good luck!

Did the Cosmos devs have problems copying characters over to the test realm? I'm assuming that the test realm is used to make changes to Cosmos code ahead of the actual patch date, so that this kind of last-minute breakage is minimized.

Just wanted to say good work on Cosmos. I have been a user since I started playing WoW on its day of release (well a week or so later anyway).

I just wanted to give you guys a "pat" on the back (don;t worry not a hard one :shock: ). You deserve it for all the hard work you do in keeping this going .. even after all the headaches and harrasement.

This is my first time using cosmos i downloaded it about a week ago. I love it. What i know about it lol. When the new patch came and i downloaded that. I am not able to get into game at all. either says disconnected to server or mostly unable to connect. Is related to my out of date UI? :cry:

dean, the UI can't affect your connection to the server (quite simply, the UI doesn't get loaded until after you have chosen a character and pressed the "Enter WoW" button).

It is more likely that many people were trying to log in and the servers went "EEEK!" :)

I'm sorry, but it's very very hard to make an exact date - we don't even have the luxury of Blizzard to have hired people that we know are going to (try to fake :D ) work for 8 hours a day. :)

petsasj, when we get reports that stuff is working like it should be (from people we know are thorough in testing stuff) we will mark the addons as "up-to-date." You can enable loading of out-of-date addons in the addons screen (available through the button at the bottom left of the character select screen).

Hi i got Cosmos off the thotbot site, under misc, downloads so i hope i'm talking about the same thing here.

It's great really does the stuff WoW should ahve done from the start, it's like you are the advanced development team for Blizzard, delivering the things people want rather than what they think we want.

I'm just reloading WoW now as i was also getting issues with my bags, the items were offset to the actual slots in the bag, not sure if it's cosmos related but i needed to sort it (i also have the annoying rubbish that hangs around certain text on the screen but that is another bone i have with Blizzard)

One suggestion for the future would be to be able to make the clock either + or minus the hours it currently says, i'm in the UK playing on European servers and we are 1 hr behind and i'd love to be able to have it display the time -1hr.

I have downloaded the latest alpha but am still getting this error:
Error: Interface\AddOns\BarOptions\BOHooks.lua:170: attempt to call global `MacroFrame_EditMacro' (a nil value)
and the normal numericals (as apposed to keypad) not working. I can use the mouse to click the buttons, but when I press the button on my keyboard the button highlights but the action is not carried out. Hope you can understand what I mean.

wow, so many replies to this topic that could have been answered in less than a minute with searching. almost all of the features mentioned (other than various bugs that were fixed) work fine for me in the alpha version.

sarf - I am by no means rushing or pushing, but do you have any plans to add WeaponButtons back into cosmos? I've gotten used to not having them, but I'd really like to get used to having them again :wink:

I kept a copy of weapons buttons from an old version of cosmos and gave it a nopatch file. It works fine for me except I sometimes get a message when I log in saying that it is out of date but no problems using it.

I am new to this forum and to Cosmos, so firstly let me say what an outstanding job I think the devs do. I know you're not paid nearly enuf and I believe u should get 1000% raises immediately!

That said, it's now about 6pm on Thursday, 10/13/05, and I've downloaded the latest patch as of last night.... I find that I'm unable to sell my loot to vendors w/ the right-click button. Not sure if this has been addressed, but would like to see it happen soon so I can continue playing :roll:

I want to just extend my gratitude to you all for making up such an awesome UI. I am new to WoW but as I slowly gain my levels (currently 43 Mage) I see more and more use for UI's such as yours. In my life I hardly see an act of kindness from people, you all have shown me a great act of kindness. Bieng an old school HTML developer I can kinda sorta understand how grueling it can be to sit down and pump out a good 8 pages of HTML on notepad, I can only imagine what it takes for a UI. You guys are saints!!!!
Just the simple fact you put out a working UI for free wich I imagine takes away from your actual gameplay time and also your social life time, shows you are dedicated to the better of the players around you and not just yourselves. I want to thank you for your hard work and dedication to developing one of the best UI's I have come across. Hey, first time poster... long time lover of Cosmos. Hehe

I will post the errors I am getting on loadup once I am at home, unlike most gamers... I have a real job and can't play WoW 24-7. I hate myself. Hehe

Anywhoo, a couple of things that I notice. Cosmos for some reason "appears" to save my configurations but everytime it tries to load, instead of showing my name in the configuration settings field it only shows the "FOO" configuration. Then for some reason it doesn't save anything. So the Party Quests might show it's checked, but when you click on quests it shows the default wow way

The only way I have been able to fix it, is to actually deselct it in the configuration window and then reselect it. Also my anchor points were all messed up, that seems to save though.

Lastly, from what I can see, my bag slots continue to show each indivudal used space and free space per bag on the bottom, and then the total amount for all bags on the right hand side, on the top. So what I have to do is reset that as well, then it only shows total bag slots, the way I want it.

Hello! First of all, GREAT job on the UI! I've used it since day one, and I love it! If I get some money over, then I will donate it for sure!

One little question though. Before you had a feature that skips the quest writeup thing when you get a new quest, but in the alpha version, and the last release, before 1.8, this feature was disabled or nonexistent. I was wondering if this is something that you must activate somewhere, or if its something that you have just forgotten to add. It is a great help to have it!

ranzit, you may need to turn off "don't load out of date addons" in your AddOn part of the Character Selection screen.

Theonlyk9man, we didn't want to mark our addons as "1.8.0" compliant until we was sure they were.

famzness, this sounds strange... I have had no issues with Khaos saving configuration changes personally (just problems with configuring the many addons I have for each character :) ). Your last issue is a problem with FreeBagSlots. Darn. :( I'll see if I can replicate it.

olofen, the "instant quest text" thingy finally got adopted by Blizzard (yay!) so it is part of "their" options in the Interface Options window. Since we here at the Cosmos dev team dislikes redudancy, the code that did the instant quest text fixing got removed. We mebbe should have made a "transfer option setting" thingy, but...

Ok Heres what I got. I haven't tried to download the new alpha update, work again... god I hate that. But I will try when I get home.

Just in case I wasn't descriptive the first time, cuz when I was reading my own post I was confused. Everytime I log it has the name "Foo" in the configuaration field instead of my Charactors name, which is "Grilltoq". Then, when I click on quests it always shows the default WoW configuration. So it shows like first couple of quests in a list, and then below that shows the actual quest scroll. Now when I check the config menu, it's showing that party quests is already checked. Now when I unselect it, exit out, then reselect it, and exit out, the Party quests show properly. But once I log out of WoW and log back in, it's back to the way it was before.

Now here listed below are the screenshots I took of the error messages...

Either should work. If you download the .zip make sure you remove all previous cosmos files first.

Have you tried deleting your WTF directory?

Hmm... it seems like you have outdated addons.

My guess is that it was caused by a) you were using an old alpha, b) you were using release version, c) gremlins or d) all of the above. :)

As mentioned in my previous post, Instant Quest Text is now a feature of the Blizzard default UI.

famzness, this is what I suggest: Try deleting your Interface folder (having made a backup), then add Cosmos to it again (either unzip the Zip from the website into the WoW folder directly or use the patcher to get the files), finally add the other addons you are using back.

This will preserve all your settings and saved data (those reside in the WTF folder), but will make sure all your AddOns are up to date.

No AddOns in the current Alpha distribution should be out of date. Also, you shouldn't have an actual AddOn called "Cosmos". This indicates that you have some outdated folders in your Interface folder. Take these steps:
1. backup your Interface folder
2. delete your Interface folder
3a. download Cosmos_Alpha zip and extract it to the WoW folder
-or-
3b. run the Cosmos patcher and select the Alpha distribution

The actual "Cosmos" AddOn was removed when Cosmos version 2 was released and the core configuration interface was renamed to Khaos. Cosmos is now just the name of the project and the package.

Finally, if you are getting any error messages, please make sure to record the error message exactly (use pen and paper if necessary, I know it's old fashioned but it works :wink: ) and post it. But only after you made sure you have the latest Alpha.

I used the _release version and could not use my attack-buttons anymore (and thus was almost killed by an easy spider <snif> :wink: )
Will try the _alpha version now. (If that gives the same problem I will put it here (hey software-testing is my job as an embedded software tester :lol:)

Here I am again. Hehe. Ok... totally deleted WTF folder and everything in the interface. Then deleted any cosmos programs and zip files, as per the uninstall FAQ on the webpage.

Reloaded Cosmos Alpha, and nothing else. This is after a reboot or two, just for safe keeping, and loaded up WoW. Ironically, still getting the same errors again, and the same problems with the bags. I am thinking to just wait for the release. Maybe something just isn't happening right. I dunno.

nemelis, you are absolutely correct, it is confusing. Unfortunately the time stamps are put there based on when the Release version was last checked for changes, not when it has last changed :( I know this is confusing, hopefully it will be fixed someday.

famzness, I know this sounds like nagging, but from your screenshots, the errors you are having can only happen if you are using an out of date Alpha distribution. Could I please ask you to:
* again, delete your Interface folder
* start the Cosmos***** program in your World of Warcraft folder
* click the Configure button
* select Alpha for the distribution
* click Complete File Check - this should download some files and update them to more recent version
* exit Cosmos*****

Legorol, i have done these steps and still get the same 3 errors as famzness. Also, i cant use hotkeys anymore. Whenever i push a hotkey in a fight, an error just pops up. So i have to use the mouse to cast things, which is very annoying.

Alright, I will give it a try again. Your not nagging, if anything... I'm nagging. :D But after i saw the hotkeys thing I realized that I didn't have them either. The numbers above the spells/skills for the hotkeys aren't there. i.e. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 - =

I'll test this out more later, when I have the opportunity. I'll do exactly what you said again, just to see if maybe I was doing something wrong. I just don't understand how its picking up and old version of Cosmos when I totally deleted the entire cosmos program, including the zip off my pc. Then I downloaded a new copy of cosmos, and installed it from scratch.

It is possible that there is an issue with the patcher, I will look into that. The problems that you have described are definitely being caused by you having out of date version of Cosmos. If updating to newer version via the patcher doesn't seem to work, then try downloading the Cosmos_Alpha.zip from the website again, after clearing your web cache.

Please note that the Release distribution is not up to date, and will cause the errors you have described. Make sure to get the Alpha distribution, whether you are getting the zip file or using the patcher.

Hello, I've been using Cosmos for awhile and must say its one I was and have been able to figure out and get right into the scheme of things. So, great work to the Devs on that.

But I did have one small problem, I use the Cosmos Alpha, because I am one of those who just cannot use WoW without all the addons provided. I was having the problem with the pet action bar being on top of the action window on the left of my screen.

I uninstalled everything. Deleted the Interface folder as well as my WTF, and all other Cosmos files. To ensure nothing was missed. =)

When I reinstalled, it did something really strange. It installed like follow:

World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\Interface\AddOns :shock:

You see, two deep. I had to take everything in the last AddOns folder and move to the primary folder and delete that second Interface. Once I did that, my addons were present once more. Yay. :P

I do not know why this occured, not once but several times until I decided to do the move. Just something I like to mention.

Thanks again for Cosmos, it is my life line for WoW.

Now this is going to sound crazy, but here is what was happening with my issue.

While doing the patcher, it kept saying it skipped files and put them as being disabled. Mostly stuff that wasn't cosmos related. i.e. Flightpath Mod. So I thought it was kind of odd.

My Zonealarm firewall wasn't working properly the last couple of days. Ever since I did a windows update, it appears that I couldn't control it using a remote desktop utility. I use Real VNC. I first noticed the problem when I tried to run the patcher, and ZA wouldn't allow me to grant access to it remotely. So I had to go home to do it. This has never, ever happened to me before. After troubleshooting ZA for a little while, and looking on their forums, I removed it and did a fresh install again. Same exact problem.

So what is the next logical step? System Restore! So I restored before the update, everything back to normal. Just ran the patcher, and it found all the new Alpha files. Logged in, an All Better.

So my take on it was this...

Windows did that automatic update, and one of the hotfixes caused Zonealarm to activate a few hidden security features, one of them being to Remotely Configure the program as well. And even after a reinstall of the program, the hotfix for some reason or another still made ZA enable itself in this fashion. Thus by reverting back before the update, everything was as it should be. And all is well in the Universe again.

Hope this helps at least ONE other person out besides me. ;)

I can't use Cosmos Alpha right now because Khaos isn't working, therefore making a stupid amount of error reports, thus making most other addons unusable.

Any ideas of how I can fix this. I cant type the error report because I'm running with no MODs at the moment.

There were lots of them though. And Khaos just said "Hey there" every few lines, no drop down menus or anything.

Deleted the two folders (forget their names WDU & WTF or something)

First I'd like to thank the crew for their great work, your UI has helped me enormously.

I don't recall if there were any settings in the box for the reagent helper but I presently don't have any. There is only the checkbox to active the helper and after toggling that several times I still haven't been able to get it to work.

I have always thought the reagent helper as just that, a great help. Please let me know if it's working for you and if so, what I can do to get mine back up and running.

MThead2k5, increase the difficulty setting in Khaos to get additional options. I beleive that will enable additional checkboxes in the right pane of Khaos to configure Reagent Helper.

I was just curious if the weapon buttons will be fixed soon? just to quench my curiosity.. i know you all have real lives and such... but pressing # keys was one of the biggest pros with cosmos.. now i get an error when i press any number keys.. i dont have the error written down yet.. but will do in the future...

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I downloaded it. opened it, all seems to be good, when I click it, it opens and does a search, i changed the the config to alpha exp and clicked on, I don't see any differences at all. I don't see the map thing.

Am I not doing something, or did I miss something?

you all make it sound so cool. And the cord on the map sounds like a heaven sent thing.

Please let me know what I am not turning on or not downloading.

Thanks for helping...if you mean the user level I already have it set to master and if I switch to developer level no options appears then either. The box on the right where you normally select settings is still empty.

I get a few error messages, but i am only having 1 problem in game, normally i just deal with it but it is game crippling. My reputation screen auto checks "at war" with every faction. And when my character is in winterspring i cannot talk to anything. I get a dagger icon which will throw me into a fight with them. I cannot do anything in everlook but fight anything there. I am having a small but game crippling problem with the alpha version. I get 6 error messages, but usually just deal with these until the release version (which has always been flawless) comes out. the game crippling issue is that my standing screen seems to auto check "at war" with every faction. Also, 9Im sure as a result) i cannot talk to any npc in winterspring. I a dagger icon and will automatically attack any npc i talk to. Any advice? Also thanks for you invaluable add ons. Blizz has already implemented some of your changes on their own ui, and are morons for not adding you to their permenant staff! :)

When will the 'Release' version be coming out? I do not use the alpha version of any program. I understand that not every new things in the alpha is working without error. Can you put out a release version with none of the new items but with just the fixes? If there is still a bug in one add-on don't include it with the updated release.

Just what exactly do you think the team has been working on these past couple of weeks? Anduin and Mugendai especially, but others too, have spent their free time, including WoW playtime, fixing the millions of bugs that were introduced thanks to Blizzard changes so that you can get a Release version of Cosmos that works with 1.8. How about you sit tight and wait for it to appear, rather than coming here and demanding what the team does and does not do.

There have been virtually no new features added to Alpha since patch 1.8 came out. Any of the features that were added are either there to aid fixing bugs, or to work around things that have changed in 1.8. No, we can't just "leave out" AddOns either, because then we will have a mass of users screaming down our neck demanding that we put back such and such an AddOn and just who the hell we are for pulling it out of Cosmos anyway.

Heh, I know you guys are anxious. We are close. There were really major changes in the client XML code since 1.8 and getting 68 addons all working with them, can take some time indeed. Plus the change came in the middle of some major upgrades to several addons we were working on already, so that didn't help at all.

As always, if you are very anxious for use of the addons you can get the alpha and make use of it. And can turn off any addons that have bugs.

But see, bugs are crafty lil buggers, and aren't as simple of a notion as you might think. It would be great it we could just have a looksey at our addons, and say, "ookay, all of you with a bug in them, please take a step forward" and all bugged addons would summarily take a step forward[likely this would be every addon, since bugs really are crafty sneaky hidey creatures].

But it doesn't work that way, to find a bug, we have to play the game, and experience the bug ourselves, which means we aren't coding at that time. Or we have to hunt through the forums and other places for users who have run into bugs that we can repeat ourselves, to be able to fix them. Typically as soon as we hear about a bug that can be confirmed, we get right on fixing it. But again, while working on fixing the bugs, we can't be searching for more.

Its a time consuming proccess for just a few people to do. And we are sorry it is taking so long, and are doing our best to get you a release. In the meantime feel free to check out the alpha to see our progress.

To Snag666, It sounds like you are using the 'Release' Version. Until the 'release' version is updated you will have this problem with the Repution addon. Turn off that addon will get you out of war. That is what I did.

when you make the alpha updated and it becomes the release, will you have something on the front page of cosmos.org saying so.

I know it seems daft to ask but i just wanted to be sure as i'm itching to get cosmos back.

It's not the "release" version i installed the "alpha" version modified on Oct 20th.

Cosmos Alpha is experimental. It is based on what the devs commit to the developer version (however, due to issues with zipping and stuff, it's only done once every hour or so). This includes brand-spanking new stuff, like features and bugs and addons.

Cosmos Release is supposed to be the stable go-getter version for the user which likes brandy, pipe tobacco and comfort (less bug/feature ridden) with regards to WoW addons.

Unfortunately, for the devs to make a "release" version, they must first make an Alpha version which works with the new patch. They must then decide that "this is good enough" and get the server-peoples to make a Release version (not automated as of yet). Then, and only then, do the end-users get to see a stable Release version.

If the "bag icon" (on cursor) does not appear, it is not likely that the bug is caused by Cosmos. That cursor change is not triggered from within Lua (at least, not as far as I know).

It's probably one of the random bugged mobs that are around. are you positive that you got XP for the kill (ie, the nameplate bar was Red/yellow not grey?)
