View Full Version : Removing Unused Addons
I've got a lot of addons in Cosmos that I really don't use, and I don't understand how to remove them and keep them gone from Cosmos. Can someone help me out?

After you log in but before you choose a character, look for the "Add-ons" button on the bottom left of the character screen. Then, simply disable (uncheck) the add-ons you don't plan to use.
IMPORTANT: Some add-ons have dependencies (like Sky or Earth,) which might not seem important based on their names. Look over the list after you uncheck the stuff you don't think you need for anything that lists "Dependency"- that means that something that add-on needs has been disabled. Mousing over that add-on will tell you its dependencies- just reenable what its looking for if you truly want to be able to use that add-on.
This way, all of the Cosmos files will still be installed on your hard drive in case you later decide you want to re-enable an add-on, but the game itself will not load those applications into memory when WoW starts, thereby saving you overhead.
Hope this helps!
Well, I knew about that, but it should help people who didn't know that.
What I need assistance with is how to uninstall the addons that I do not use, and how to keep Cosmos from updating them/reinstalling them.

If you're sure you don't need them and they're not a dependency of some other Add-on, just delete those add-ons folders from your "addons" directory. If you re-install, they'll be put back in, but really they only take up a few meg each (unzipped, the entire package is only 23.6MB), so why not just leave them on your hard drive in case you later change your mind and decide to reactivate them?

If you are using the new patcher application, it allows you to disable AddOns you don't want to use. It doesn't delete them, but moves them to a separate DisabledAddOns folder at least, so they don't show up in WoW at all. If you then use the patcher to update Cosmos, it will make sure that these AddOns stay updated but in the DisabledAddOns folder.

that doesn't work any more all it does is put them in both folders :(

Disable the desired addon and then check if it's in DisabledAddons, if it's there - OK. Then go to Addons, if there is a copy of the addon there, delete it.
I guess the patcher got confused somehow, but this should resolve the issue. (maybe it has something to do with the addon you try to disable, which one is it ?) :)

Move all the addons you don't want to use from Addons to DisabledAddons. Patcher will check automatically DisabledAddons and will mark all addons in that folder as disabled. Tell if the patcher will handle that (i think it will). :)

The patcher is very buggy about it. I gave up on trying to use it to handle disabled addons myself, in fact went back to Thott's simpler patcher. I just uncheck what I don't use and leave it at that. They don't load into memory, so no harm.
You can also use nopatch to ignore the ones you don't use.
It takes some careful tending of the garden, but it is possible to slim it down with the available tools, just not as user friendly as it could be.
