ok, i have no clue how to work the damage meter, but my main problem is how do I make it so pet damage is included with the party? :?

should do that by default unless you set the option called something like treat pet data as your data

iirc, right-click the damage meter title bar and you will get a options menu. Adjust to your hearts content ;)

I tried using the right click menu on damage meter, but I can't get it to do what I want.

When I am grouped with a hunter, I would like Damage Meter to show the hunter's pet's damage. What setting should I apply to get this behavior?

DamageMeters can only include your own pet damage in your damage. This is for various reasons explained on the curse page. http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/567/

It's a design limitation. It could feasibly be changed, but it's not worth reprogramming at this point because blizzard is redesigning the combat log for 2.4.
