Default DamageMeters and 2.4
Cosmos Team

DamageMeters will be broken when 2.4 goes live. The new combat log is not backwards compatable as far as I know and the new system is sufficuntly different that updating DamageMeters would either require a substantial rewrite or limit the new functionality to that of the old api.

For this and personaal reasons I have decided that it is not feasable for me to continue maintaining DamageMeters. As far as I know (as of this posting) the only meter addon that has been updated for 2.4 is a branch of Recount, but I expect others addons will be written or updated shortly.

If you would seriously like to assume control of DamageMeters, update it and maintain it feel free to contact me. I have control of the WoWI and Curse pages and can tranfer control of them.

As of 2.4 DamageMeter will be removed from Cosmos. If a new maintainer updates it and desires it to be in Cosmos again they can ask me about that too.

The task is not impossible. I, however, will not be doing it but plan to continue my work on other addons. Thank you for using DamageMeters. If you find good replacements feel free to post links. If the author of a replacement wants their addon in Cosmos they are free to ask me about that too, but we wont be including any without the author's support and maintinance, as is standard Cosmos policy.

Thanks for DamageMeters, I guess the future will show if it knows a re-incarnation
It has been the category defining addon for a very long time.

You're right about Recount available at http://www.wowace.com/wiki/Recount
Recount (preservation) by Elsia has a feature complete version out for 2.4
and Cryect is working on Recount2 (a complete rewrite of the original not a modification, that will also be 2.4 compatible)

Recap (Hawsky) also has a 2.4 version out.

A new contender goes under the name of YACL which is also coded for 2.4 from the start (not the evolution of a pre-2.4 combat logger)

Other Ace framework addons (apart from Recount1/2 and Recap, like Assessment, Violation et al
I'd expect them to be updated sooner or later too but I don't know of 2.4 ready versions at this moment)

The author of SWStats has also posted on swstats forum that he intends to develop the addon for 2.4 but there's no alpha/beta yet.

I started hacking away at it and I've figured out the bulk of the new event log system. I don't know how much time I have to work on it, but if there's a way to submit paches/changes please let me know. If not, I can always post the updates to my site and start source control at home, etc..

One thing that's nice with the new system is that there is no more need for heavy parsing of the log. The raw data can be stripped out and passed directly to AddDamge() for example, which is what I've done. Of course at this point it's all very hack-ish but I like it too much to replace it ;-).

It will be a while before I'm done with anything. If not hosted through Cosmos I'll probably host it on one of my domains. So far I've figured out what I think needs to be done and have it working more or less in regards to damage out and heals out. It's really just a hack for me to get familliar with the code and lua/wow plugins. I'll post back here somewhere when/if I get further with it.

Thanks for the suggestions, Astaldo. Though I couldn't find anything about the Recount2 package you mentioned is being worked on, I have found that Recount (Preservation) seems to work well and be a decent replacement. One of my guildies suggested SWS Stats as well. I haven't tried it, though, and he did say it is a memory hog.

I really don't like the Recount display and option config. The only think I like about it is the ability to see how things died.

SWStats is very similar to DM. I haven't played with their new version to see what changed.

Recount UI very big and not much options
SW stats very big and very wide and not much options
Damage meters small clear visible ui alot of options clear and laid out.

I have used alot of others but will stay with damage meters until it is remade for 2.4 a loyal damage meters player
